What is AWOL?

AWOL is a movement to dive deeper into a radical lifestyle for our LORD Jesus Christ. AWOL Ministries believe that we need to make the church relevant again, and the relevance we seek is for the church to become relevant to its own people by its own message of God's salvation in Christ and thus relevant to others.

For the harsh statistic of 4000 laypersons being surveyed- 83% see no relevance between Sunday morning and the rest of the week.

In our age, putting our allegiances in things before God and the immorality of this world are only symptoms of what is really wrong, which is the death of life transforming faith. AWOL Ministries is aware of this, and we want to help people reshape, reclaim, redefine and see the power and worthiness of a transcending journey of salvation. We do this by using what people know… postmodern ideas, music, movies, technology and challenges, and help them see new life for the glory of God. For w hat is your purpose in life? If it is not big enough to die for, then is it really life? And if you claim to be a “Christian,” then is what you are doing worthy of the death of your LORD? We hope you see the potential for this to be what brings back true worshippers in spirit and in truth, and true disciples who are hunger and thirsty for righteousness.

Changing membership to discipleship

Today, having membership at a church is the same as having membership at a country club. As Dietrich Bonhoeffer said, “if you do evangelism like the world, you will be selling salvation at a discount retail price where the price is low and the customer is king.” The church is reaping this evangelism.

We practice sports, piano, video games, sign language and all other kinds of things, yet what about discipleship? If you have what it takes to go AWOL, you will be able to enter into a covenant with GOD and begin a spiritual journey as you voluntarily submit, learn and become accountable, so that you can truly learn how to “fight the good fight” and be alive in life.

This is done through many things such as: a renaming ceremony, rites of passage, spiritual challenges and to some degree being undone in order to gain life… only complacency is failure. (Warriors of Christ below plays a big part in this.)

Our goal is to use modern technology to reach the generations with what they know, just as Jesus used sheep, shepherds & parables to his generation. Not as entertainment, but thought provoking ideas, deep mysteries of Jesus Christ, and redefining things such as: creativity, love, authority, temporal vs. eternal.

Our homes are in trouble… A lot of people are self-righteous and miserable, we do not understand sexuality anymore… we do not understand success… we are the wealthiest, but most broken nation there is… we don't understand what morality is anymore… we do not even understand happiness or life anymore. We must engage and bring back new concepts, redefine the foundation, and bring joy & aliveness back to GOD.

This is AWOL Ministries program of Spiritual Formation, challenging someone to see if they have what it takes. You will “test the spirit” of the world to the spirit of Jesus Christ as you move from level to level that requires growth in spiritual maturity, willingness to take risk and obedience to follow the Holy Spirit.
