One of the events that we at AWOL have created has been the Pneuma Challenge. Pneuma is the Greek word for Spirit, and the word “Challenge” is in the title for a reason. One of the main objectives of the Pnuema Challenge is to encourage those involved to spiritually “dig deeper” than what they may be used to.

Many different ideas will be covered at this event, but the challenge is to see outside the physical mind in ALL of the proposed ideas and situations. For example, we may play a movie clip from a movie that's been selected from pop culture. We may choose a film that wouldn't normally be thought of as spiritual. After watching the clips, we then would have open discussion about the spiritual aspects of what was seen. This brings revelation to things that may very well have never been noticed before when viewing such things as a movie. This is one of many things we may do.

Another goal of the event is to give those attending an opportunity to converse about ideas, emotions, and situations relating to themselves and religion. Since these events will be held on neutral grounds, the conversations will seem easier to become engaged in. We want to provide this retreat at a different setting each time we offer it. For example, in the summer we want to hold it outdoors verses inside. Through positive and open conversation, many things can be achieved in the spiritual learning process. We will also offer games and activities that will encourage a spiritual mindset at this retreat.

Most of the time spent at the Pneuma Challenge will be with one another, together in conversations, preparing meals, singing, worshipping, and group teaching sessions. There will however be times offered for individual reflection and thought processing. If you truly are interested in receiving revelation and in seeking a newer spiritual depth in your day to day life, then take the Pneuma Challenge!
